The Little Star that Could

This show tells a story of a little star in search of planets of his own. He meets new stars along the way and eventually finds his own planets. It teaches children about the solar system in a way that makes learning fun and easy to understand.

Black Holes-The Other Side of Infinity

GalaxyLearn about Black Holes the exciting way at the Rollins Planetarium in nearby Young Harris, Georgia. The show Black Holes-The Other Side of Infinity is being presented in January and February 2011. This full dome presentation is narrated by Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson. You will zip through wormholes and watch galaxies collide as you experience a simulated flight to a super massive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. Cutting edge science and Einstein’s theories help to provide one of the most complete pictures of this mysterious phenomenon yet.

Show time is 8 PM and dates are January 14, 21, and 28 and February 11, 18, and 25, 2011. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for children and non YHC students, YHC students and faculty are FREE.

Pulled Pork Fundraiser

Come on out to the square in downtown Hiawassee, Georgia on November 12, 2010 from 10:15 AM to 2 PM to get a tasty meal and help a good cause at the same time. For $7, you can purchase a meal of a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, cole slaw, a drink, and a cookie and one dollar will be donated for every meal purchased to the Towns County Food Pantry. It will be a good feeling to know that while you are eating, you are helping someone else have a meal too!

Art Exhibit at Brasstown Valley Resort

Artist's paletteBrasstown Valley Resort and Spa along with the Mountain Arts Association will have their newest art exhibit titled “Changing Seasons” on display in the Brasstown Valley Art Gallery from November 12, 2010 through April 15, 2011. There will be an opening reception on November 8, 2010 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM.

This exhibit features art created by area artists ranging from acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, photography, oil, and pastel. All art on display will be available for purchase at the reception and throughout the exhibit.

The Brasstown Valley Art Gallery is located on the Club level of the main building at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa.

Summer’s Last Kiss Art Festival

ArtVisit the square in Hiawassee on September 25 – 26, 2010 for the 3rd annual Summer’s Last Kiss Art Festival. It is going to be a weekend of enjoyment of all the arts. There will be many art exhibits on display as well at music, dancing, crafts, poetry, and more. What a great way to say goodbye to summer.

Georgia Apple Festival

Apple BasketDon’t miss the 39th annual Georgia Apple Festival at the Ellijay Lions Club in nearby Ellijay. It will be a fun and festive time celebrating the apple harvest and the fall season. It takes place on the first 2 weekends in October, October 9-10 and 16-17, 2010. There will be a parade and an antique car show as well as over 300 food and arts and crafts vendors.

Mountain Music and Arts and Crafts Festival

Spinning WheelVogel State Park in nearby Blairsville will be hosting the Mountain Music and Arts and Crafts Festival on September 11, 2010 from 10 AM to 5 PM. The festival showcases Appalachian, Bluegrass, and Southern Gospel music – the music of the mountains. Enjoy the music as well as the arts and crafts from many different artisans. You can also witness demonstrations of blacksmithing, bowl carving, and spinning. Food concessions will be available.

Admission is $2 – $5 with $5 parking.
