Don’t miss the Young Harris Art Fest at Mayors Park in Young Harris, Georgia on August 27 and 28, 2011 from 10 AM to 5 PM. This will be 2 days of fun with live music, many arts and crafts vendors, fresh local produce, and a canning and baking competition for all ages with ribbons and recognition in the local newspaper for the winners.
Admission and parking is free so come on out and spend the day, enjoy some delicious food, and take home some unique art.

6th Annual Mountain Fling Arts and Crafts Show

Don’t miss the 6th Annual Mountain Fling Arts and Crafts Show at the North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville, Georgia on June 25 and 26, 2011. This will be a juried arts and crafts show with booths inside and out. There will be even more this year as a new garden section has been added with potted plants and garden decor.
Food and beverages will be available. If you are interested in being a food vendor for this show, contact ArtWorks at 706-896-0932. Only push carts and tent space will be available, no drive in trailers or vehicles will be allowed.

Art Classes for March

Below is a list of exciting art classes being offered in March, 2011 at the ArtWorks Artisan Centre in Hiawassee, Georgia.
March 12, 2011 from 1 PM to 4 PM - Learn the beginning basics of watercolor painting. Instructor Verlee Jones will lead the class and take you through various techniques in watercolor painting. Class fee is $15. Supply fee is $15 and includes all supplies needed to start you on your way to being a watercolor artist!
March 19, 2011 from 11 AM to 1 PM – Beginner level sewing class. Sew a pillowcase dress with instructor Joy Garcia. Class fee is $25. Students are required to bring 1-1/2 yards of cotton fabric, a spool of matching thread, and 2 yards of 7/8″ wide grosgrain ribbon. Last day to register for the class is March 12.
March 23, 2011 - Morning and evening classes are available. Learn to make beads with intricate patterns in polymer clay. These beads will be used to make a bracelet that you can wear home. It is a beginner class with instructor Cheryl Gehring. Class fee is $28 and the supply fee is $10. Last day for registration is March 22.
March 31, 2011 – Morning and evening classes are available. Use polymer clay to make a flower pattern pendant. Instructor Cheryl Gehring leads this beginner class. Class fee is $28 and the supply fee is $10. Last day for registration is March 30.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be presented in the Dobbs Theatre at Young Harris College on February 17 – 20 and 24 – 26, 2011. This play is a Shakespeare comedy that connects 3 different stories together through the celebration of a wedding. There is love, fairy magic, manipulations, and mistaken identity set mainly in the woodlands.
Showtimes are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 PM, Sunday matinee is at 2 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and faculty and can be purchased at the Young Harris College Box Office or online. The Box Office opens 2 weeks prior to opening night and is open Monday – Friday 3 – 5 PM. For more information contact 706-379-4307.

Art Class for February

Enjoy an afternoon learning how to paint a single rose batik watercolor painting on February 12, 2011 from 1 PM to 5 PM. The class is being taught by Instructor Verlee Jones. Just in time for Valentines Day, you can give your favorite valentine your completed piece of art.

Arts and Craft Classes

The Artworks Artisan Centre, a subsidiary of Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, offers classes in a variety of arts and crafts in downtown Hiawassee, Georgia. The classes are taught by specialists in their fields.
Make a Valentine Treat Bag in a basic sewing machine class instructed by Joy Garcia on January 15, 2011 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The fee for the class is $25 and includes a kit. Students will need to bring some supplies and they will be listed on the registration form.
Paint a snowbear in acrylics on wood of your choice with instructor Verlee Jones on January 22, 2011 from 1 PM to 5 PM. The fee for this class is $20 and a supply fee of $5 includes paint, the use of brushes and a palette. Round plates will be available for purchase for an additional $8. Stippler brushes will be lent or can be purchased for $5.

Art Exhibit at Brasstown Valley Resort

Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa along with the Mountain Arts Association will have their newest art exhibit titled “Changing Seasons” on display in the Brasstown Valley Art Gallery from November 12, 2010 through April 15, 2011. There will be an opening reception on November 8, 2010 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM.
This exhibit features art created by area artists ranging from acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, photography, oil, and pastel. All art on display will be available for purchase at the reception and throughout the exhibit.
The Brasstown Valley Art Gallery is located on the Club level of the main building at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa.
