Art Class for February

Enjoy an afternoon learning how to paint a single rose batik watercolor painting on February 12, 2011 from 1 PM to 5 PM. The class is being taught by Instructor Verlee Jones. Just in time for Valentines Day, you can give your favorite valentine your completed piece of art.

The class is being held at the ArtWorks Artisan Centre. The class fee is $20. The supplies will be provided for $15 and they include a mat, a protective sleeve and backing board, paint and other items. Call 706-896-0932 to register and for more information.

Bill Medley in Concert

Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers will be in concert on January 22, 2011. The concert will be held at the Anderson Music Hall at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee, Georgia.

Bill Medley is best known as one half of the Righteous Brothers although he has had a solo career that has spanned over 40 years. The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 and their hit “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin” is the most played song in the history of American radio.

Arts and Craft Classes

PaintThe Artworks Artisan Centre, a subsidiary of Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, offers classes in a variety of arts and crafts in downtown Hiawassee, Georgia. The classes are taught by specialists in their fields.

Make a Valentine Treat Bag in a basic sewing machine class instructed by Joy Garcia on January 15, 2011 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The fee for the class is $25 and includes a kit. Students will need to bring some supplies and they will be listed on the registration form.

Paint a snowbear in acrylics on wood of your choice with instructor Verlee Jones on January 22, 2011 from 1 PM to 5 PM. The fee for this class is $20 and a supply fee of $5 includes paint, the use of brushes and a palette. Round plates will be available for purchase for an additional $8. Stippler brushes will be lent or can be purchased for $5.

Black Holes-The Other Side of Infinity

GalaxyLearn about Black Holes the exciting way at the Rollins Planetarium in nearby Young Harris, Georgia. The show Black Holes-The Other Side of Infinity is being presented in January and February 2011. This full dome presentation is narrated by Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson. You will zip through wormholes and watch galaxies collide as you experience a simulated flight to a super massive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. Cutting edge science and Einstein’s theories help to provide one of the most complete pictures of this mysterious phenomenon yet.

Show time is 8 PM and dates are January 14, 21, and 28 and February 11, 18, and 25, 2011. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for children and non YHC students, YHC students and faculty are FREE.
